Photo Challenge #22

A wedding inspired challenge based on that old little rhyme that brides often stick to when planning the details of what they will wear. I'm sure you are all familiar with it:
Something Old,
Something New,
Something Borrowed,
Something Blue.

The Rules:
1.) Four images
2.) Let's steer away from images that actually have to do with weddings, use your imagination with this one. Let's get outside the box a little.
3.) B/w or colour
4.) Photo Submissions due by Sat. July 4th.

This week we have been really busy redoing our bathroom (when it is finished I will be posting before and after pictures) so since bathroom stuff is all over the place (inside and out) it would be the perfect theme for this challenge. I really like all the photos in Black & White but for the last one dealing with the color Blue I did dim the picture a bit so it somewhat fits in with all the other pictures.

Something Old (old bathroom pipes and fixtures)

Something New (our new bathroom fixture)

Something Borrowed (tile cutter rented from Menard's)

Something Blue (bucket w/mortar)

  1. Oh Katie, I just love this! I think this is your strongest set yet. It totally tells a story!

  2. Great job with this series. Diana is right. It goes really well together and tells a story. I LOVE tile work. Let me know if you need a hand grouting. :-)

The old one really does look old. Great angle on the sink. I really love the angle on the wet saw and all the interesting lines of the tiles.

I also like the bucket of mortar with the trowel on it. It's such a soft, pretty blue for such a dirty job.

    I <3 your series!

  3. What a great series! It definitely tells a story. My favorite is the borrowed photo of the tile cutter with the tile...I'm just really drawn into that picture! Wonderful documentation of your project!

  4. I love it! The whole series just fits. I like the old one, with the junk lying there, very good idea.
My favorite picture is definitely the saw, the angle makes it come alive, and almost looks like it's coming at you!
    Is your project done now?

  5. We are not done yet with project as of Sun July 5th but getting close... we have all the tile up and are now grouting. After that have to put all the fixtures in and put everything back in the bathroom (hopefully we will be done next week some time!)

Katie- I think this is a great series-
not only does it tell a story, but the shots you took of each object are jsut beautiful~
I agree with Josh- the one with the saw is fantastic- LOVE that you chose to have it "coming" at us!

  7. I'm back to talk more! I had to comment right away because the pictures made me smile so!

The order of the photos is so absolutely perfect as to tell a story.

I love the composition of the first photo. You give us just enough information visually to understand what all that jumble of stuff is. I enjoy the repeating lines against all the natural textures of the pine cones and such. Nice repeating shapes in this one too.

The angle of this one is nice...you even have some shapes that reference back to the first photo, but I gather that perhaps you took this shot at night, it looks like you used a flash. I can't remember how much light this room gets, but a shot with natural or bounced light would have been stronger...the shadow behind the faucet takes away from the beauty of the image for me.

Nice movement in the third picture! The lines in the tile take my eye right back to the saw...another great texture photo too!

I thing another thing that makes this for me is the fact that I can see your old bathroom in my mind. I'm sure you are relieved to get some work done on it!

  8. Great idea with these :)

I like the shapes in the first one. It's dumped in a heap but somehow doesn't just look "messy".

and the "New" one compared to the "old" one, - well it definitely looksk newer and shinier. Nice angle too.

The "borrowed" one really makes me feel part of the action the way that the shot is angled towards the saw and near the tiles.

And the last one being in color stands out all the more, but still works well with the series because it's not a blazing bright blue or anything - just a pale subdued blue to go with the black and white photos.

    Good stuff!
